Westlake Speech & Debate 2020-2021 Schedule
This schedule is subject to change based on the level of student interest and the availability of sponsors to attend tournaments. Mr. Uhler and Ms. Clausen determine which students will be allowed to participate at each tournament. Participation is also subject to parent approval, and is limited to students in good standing both academically and in terms of citizenship. Remember, each student must attend at least three tournaments in the Fall semester and at least two tournaments in the Spring semester. Due to the fact that most (if not all) of these tournaments will be online tournaments, the dates and locations may change from what is listed below. For example, a tournament may start on Wednesday evening, as opposed to Friday evening. Students and parents will be informed weeks in advance regarding schedule changes.
Fall 2020
August 28-August 29 – Leander HS (online) (TFA State Tournament Qualifier) Local Tournament – All students are encouraged to attend. All WHS S&D Officers must attend.
September 3, 4, 5 – Hendrickson/Pflugerville HS Swing Tournament (online) (TFA State Tournament Qualifier) Local Tournament – All students are encouraged to attend. All WHS S&D Officers must attend.
September 11, 12, 13 – Grapevine HS (online) (TFA State Tournament Qualifier/TOC Bid Tournament) – Participation at this tournament is granted through invitation only. Entries are limited. There may be additional entry fees associated with attendance at this tournament.
September 11-12 – Round Rock HS (online) (TFA State Tournament Qualifier) Local Tournament – All students not attending Grapevine are encouraged to attend. (CANCELLED)
September 18-19 – Lake Travis HS (online) (TFA State Tournament Qualifier) Local Tournament – All students are encouraged to attend.
October 1, 2, 3 – Westlake HS (online) (TFA State Tournament Qualifier) – We host this tournament at Westlake HS! All students are required to attend. Our students run the tournament. This tournament DOES NOT count as one of the required three tournaments in the Fall semester.
October 15, 16, 17 – Vista Ridge HS (online) (TFA State Tournament Qualifier) Local Tournament – All students encouraged to attend.
October 16-18 – Bronx Science New York City Invitational (online) (TOC Bid Tournament) – Participation at this tournament is granted through invitation only. Entries are limited. There may be additional entry fees associated with attendance at this tournament.
October 23-24 – Austin HS (online) (TFA State Tournament Qualifier) Local Tournament – All students not attending Plano West or St. Marks are encouraged to attend.

January 15-17 – Anderson HS (Austin - online) (TFA State Tournament Qualifier) Local Tournament – All students are encouraged to attend.

January 29-31 – The Barkley Forum (online) (TOC Bid Tournament) – Participation at this tournament is granted through invitation only. Entries are limited. There may be additional entry fees associated with attendance at this tournament.
February 5-6 – Jack C. Hays (Buda - online) (TFA State Tournament Qualifier) Local Tournament – Local Tournament – All students are encouraged to attend.
February 12-13 – Claudia Taylor (San Antonio - online) (TFA State Tournament Qualifier) – Local Tournament – All students are encouraged to attend.
End of TFA Qualifying Season
February 12-15 – Harvard Invitational (online) (TOC Bid Tournament) – Participation at this tournament is granted through invitation only. Entries are limited. There may be additional entry fees associated with attendance at this tournament.
March 10-13 – TFA State Tournament (Gregory Portland or online) (All qualified students must plan to attend. To qualify, students must accumulate at least 10 TFA State Points in at least one TFA event. If travel is necessary, travel expenses covered by Eanes ISD.)
Late March – UIL District Speech and LD Debate Tournament (Location TBD) (Mr. Uhler and Ms. Clausen will choose which students may participate. Only events available for participation: Prose Interp., Poetry Interp., LD Debate, Persuasive Speaking, and Informative Speaking. Only three entries per category.)
April 16-17 – UIL Regional Tournament, UTSA University (San Antonio) (For students who qualified at the UIL District tournament.)
April 23-25 – NSDA District Tournament (Location TBD) (Mr. Uhler and Ms. Clausen will choose which students may participate. This tournament is the qualifying tournament for the NSDA National Tournament in June. Individual entries are limited.)
If we have students qualify, we may attend the NIETOC and/or TOC. These tournaments usually occur in April/May.
May 25-26 – UIL State Tournament, UT Austin (For students who qualified at the UIL Regional tournament.)
June 13-18 – NSDA National Tournament (Des Moines, IA) (For students who qualified at the NSDA District tournament. Travel expenses covered by participating students.) As this is a tournament in which students and sponsor(s) will be traveling, please consider transportation days in addition to tournament dates.
